I love the inspiration that simple household objects (the 'useful' things we take for granted) provide to the imagination. Photography, with its' ability to record surface detail convincingly, combined with the computer's ability to transform and transmute what it is given, allows me to define, and redefine a meaningful relationship with the things at hand, and therefore, the world in which I live. The Spring Cleaning Series refers to the yearly ablutions we perform each spring; a ritual that I liken to a cleansing of the soul and a rebirth of desire. As in each of the series of Transmutations the images are derived from a single parent; in this case a 4x5 photograph of objects used for cleaning.
